Sophomore Review Project: Lookbook for URBN
This project is a semester-long Project during the Spring of Sophomore Year done completely solo without outside guidance. The project had to be in my concentration of Graphic Design, but, otherwise there was no direction. I chose to design a LookBook for the URBN brands, following their aesthetic to learn about branding. I took all of the photographs, styled all of the models, and scouted locations. All of the copy is my own. PLEASE NOTE: this is a student's artistic rendition of the URBN company -- I do not own any of their brand materials. This is my Artist Statement for the project: In both the conceptualization and overall creation of my Lookbook for the URBN brands (Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, and Free People), I wanted to explore the depth of the antiqued modern in relation to Graphic Design and Fashion. I wished to create something with a vintage, yet modern feel - the old melding with the new and the handmade colliding with the nuances of technology. In particular, the outdated quality found within the polaroid photographs - the fascinating concept of the instant capturing of a forever moment - that would come mixing and spiraling in a rhythmic matter with the new styles and aesthetics of 2015. A refreshing taste to something that’s been glamorously captured before. I chose to design a Spring Preview booklet that featured these three fashion brands because it is within their particular style of branding and fashion that I have found great inspiration. Additionally, I collaborated and interacted with a variety of exterior materials (tissue paper, maps, leaves, burlap, etc.) by scanning them into the computer to digitally collage them, in an attempt to meld a handmade style with a digital canvas. I wanted the viewer of my Lookbook to develop an understanding for both the brands in their truest entities, as well as, have a founded appreciation for nuances discovered within the outdated.
